;it includes wisdom as well. Seoul Design Week 2016 seeks
to redefine the meaning of smart design through a new
vision and philosophy of “Smart beyond Smart”
SMART DESIGN MANIFESTO
Regarding ‘Smart City, Smart Design, Smart Life’, the theme
of Seoul Design Week 2016,each of the three concepts are
defined and declared as follows.
Our concept of ‘Smart Design’ goes beyond mere inventiveness
and ingenuity; it refers todesigns that contain wisdom
and assume the responsibility of providing solutions that
enable a ‘Smart Life’.
A ‘Smart Life’ entails the following 5 aspects of living.
* An ‘Efficient Life’ that seeks to conserve time and space,
and to save on costs and resources.
* A ‘Harmonious Life’ that seeks to balance technology and humanity,
industry and nature, development and conservation, cutting edge and tradition,
as well as possession and sharing.
* An ‘Autonomous Life’ that allows us to pursue self-realization as the owners of
our lives, through the well-being of our body, mind, and emotions.
* A ‘Shared Life’ that enables empathy, sharing, and coexistence based on respect for
humanity and all living things.
* A ‘Sustainable Life’ that can be obtained by minimizing waste and CO2 emissions, and by recycling energy and resources.

‘Smart Design’ designates ‘A Better Life for the User’
as its core value and strivesto comply with the
following 10 requirements.
The ultimate vision embodied in the ‘Smart Design’concept
is to raise awareness of the critical social and environmental
conditions required for better and sustainable lives,
while sharing approaches relating to our design creations.
